Resin labels: what they are and how they are manufactured
Resin labels, also called resin drop labels or doming, consist of a printed substrate (vinyl, polyester or aluminium) on which a layer of two-component polyurethane resin is deposited. When cured, the resin forms a transparent, self-levelling dome that amplifies colours, protects the printing and gives the product a three-dimensional appearance.
The manufacturing process combines digital or screen printing of the substrate, die-cutting to the desired shape and controlled dispensing of the resin. The amount of resin applied determines the dome height, which typically ranges from 1 to 2.5 mm depending on the size of the piece.
Resin labels for branding and identification
Resin labels are frequently used as brand badges on appliances, automotive, sporting goods and high-end packaging. Their glossy finish and lens effect attract visual attention, making them effective as a differentiating element in products competing on shelves.
In industrial applications, self-adhesive resin labels also perform asset identification and equipment labelling functions. The resin layer resists abrasion, UV rays and most common cleaning solvents, ensuring long-term legibility without the need for periodic replacement.
Formats and customisation options
Resin stickers can be manufactured in virtually any shape: circular, rectangular, oval or custom silhouette. Finishes include transparent resin, tinted, with matte effect or with glitter particles. The substrate can carry four-colour printing, metallic inks or mirrored backgrounds to create premium visual effects.
They are supplied with rear adhesive protected by a peelable liner, ready to apply manually or using automatic placement systems on production lines.
