Waterproof adhesive labels: materials and resistance
Waterproof adhesive labels are manufactured in synthetic materials that do not absorb water: polypropylene (PP), polyester (PET), vinyl (PVC) or polyethylene (PE). Unlike paper, these substrates maintain their structural integrity and original appearance even when submerged or exposed to rain, condensation, ice and repeated wet-dry cycles.
The adhesive used is water-resistant acrylic, formulated to maintain adhesion on wet, cold or condensation-covered surfaces. For prolonged immersion applications (bath products, industrial chemicals), specific high-resistance adhesives are selected.
Applications of waterproof adhesive labels
Waterproof adhesive labels are used on chilled and frozen food products (where condensation is constant), cosmetics and personal hygiene products, cleaning products, industrial chemicals, gardening and outdoor signage. They are also common for asset and machinery labelling that operates in humid environments or is periodically washed.
Printing on waterproof materials is done with UV inks, solvent inks or thermal transfer, all resistant to water and abrasion.
