Aluminium plates for kitchens: functional and decorative protection
Aluminium plates for kitchens are installed as a splashback (backsplash) between the worktop and the upper cabinets, covering the area exposed to oil, steam and food splashes. Aluminium is lighter than stainless steel and can be easily cut to the exact dimensions of the gap, speeding up installation and reducing the weight on the wall.
They are supplied in natural brushed, silver anodised, white lacquered or with decorative printing (mosaic imitation, geometric patterns, photographs). The usual thickness for domestic kitchens is 0.8 to 1.5 mm: sufficient rigidity to stay flat without deforming in heat, but flexible enough to adapt to minor wall irregularities.
Installation and maintenance
Fixing is done with high-strength mounting adhesive or with perimeter trim profiling. Cutouts for sockets and gas connections are made before installation. Cleaning is done with a damp cloth and neutral soap; for accumulated grease, any kitchen degreaser is compatible without damaging the surface. Aluminium does not rust with the usual humidity of a kitchen, although prolonged contact with concentrated acids (vinegar, lemon) is not recommended.
