Metal roofing: protection and functionality in construction
A metal roof is a top enclosure system made up of galvanised steel, aluminium or pre-painted steel sheets or panels that protect the building from rain, wind and solar radiation. Metal roofs are installed on load-bearing structures (metal or timber purlins) and can be single sheet, sandwich panel with integrated insulation, or standing seam systems for design roofs.
The main advantages over other roofing materials are their lightness (reduces structural load), speed of installation (large surfaces in a short time) and long service life (30-50 years with basic maintenance).
Galvanised sheets for roofing
Galvanised sheets for roofing are coated with zinc by hot-dip galvanising, creating an effective anti-corrosion barrier even in aggressive environments. The thickness of the galvanised coating is measured in grams per square metre (typically Z275, equivalent to 275 g/m2) and determines the durability of the piece. Sheets can be supplied flat, ribbed (trapezoidal profile) or corrugated, according to the structural and aesthetic requirements of the project.
